what would you do?
Yesturday i was coming home on the Deerfoot from rugby practice and had to suddenly slam on the brakes. no accident or anything but there was a car pulled over to the left hand side right by the concrete median. as i passed the car i looked over (it was a cute girl) and noticed that right in front of the car there was a momma duck and her little chicks (they were pretty cute too!) it became obvious that this girl didnt want anyone to hit the ducks as they walked along ... as i drove past on my way home i kept thinking about it, how long would she protect these ducks... they had no way of getting off the road (concrete barrier that goes on and on and on) . i began to think of what i would have done or should have done as i passed the car. and another thought came into mind... how long have these ducks been walking? at some point they had to have managed to cross the deerfoot.
silly little post but i keep on thinking about those little ducks so i had to write about it.

Are you just pretending to be sensitive because there was a hot chick involved??
That being said, why didn't you stop? You were already practically stopped.
I too would be thinking about those little duckies all day. I saw a dead pigeon this morning and I've thought about it a lot.
(And I'm afraid of birds)
For fear of sounding like a duck hating heartless b#%ch: You had to suddenly slam on the breaks on deerfoot. What if the road had been busier? What if you hadn't been able to slow down? What would be worse? Having a few ducks die on deerfoot or causing a collision in which perhaps a mother and her two kids in a car died (or anyone else for that matter...that girl who stopped could have been hit and smashed into the concrete...)
At least ducks are better than geese though.(geese are so scary)
K I think you ARE heartless. ;o)
I almost hit a bird last night on the way home from Chestemere...actually I think I clipped it's wing a little....

ooooooh, horrible!!
Next time I would suggest you make everyone happy by safely pulling over in front of her and backing up quickly enough to run over the ducks. Then say, "now that you're free do you wanna go get a coffe?" That way Kristen would be happy b/c the ducks would be dead, the sensitive people would be happy b/c you took the time to pull over, you'd be happy b/c you met a hot girl, and she'd be happy b/c she met such a great guy. The ducks would also be happy b/c they'd be in a better place.
It's a win-win-win-win-win situation.
I was going to suggest you could pick one up and say, "don't worry, ducks can fly" then toss it into the air over the deerfoot. But then I thought of Kristen's point, if it didn't fly that could have caused an accident.
Kris, that was the best comment ever! (i was especially touched when you said that she'd be happy to meet such a great guy)
yeah im sure the momma duck could have flown away but the little guys would have just gone "splat" and i might be wrong but i dont think killing cute little birds is a way to impress a cute girl (and she obviously likes cute little birds, because she did pull over to protect them)
depends on whether or not you cried upon seeing them dead or if you took her out for Peking duck.
